Kalanggaman Island: The "Maldives'' of Northern Leyte

Kalanggaman island is one of the Virgin Islands in Northern Leyte particularly located in the municipality of Palompon, which have been one of the favorite destination of the thousands of foreign and local tourists because of its Maldives' like beauty.

The word Kalanggaman came from the bisaya word “langgam” means a bird. The formation of the island when viewed on top was like a bird spreading its wide wings.

The 6.5 hectares island which is 15 KM away from the mainland is ready for accepting guests that would like to enjoy the fun they offer this summer.

You can try their stand-up paddling, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling, and diving. Or just bring your guitar and strum it under the tree while singing your favorite song.

The island has  a white powdery sand that were spread all over the coastlines. Its majestic stretch of sandbar is a kilometer walk away from the body of the island.

You can chill under the coconut trees or just lie down and feel the breeze of the ocean. Anyone can bring their own food as there was no restaurant yet built in the island.

The place is very accessible. From Tacloban City, it took a maximum of three hours trip to take you to Palompon, Leyte where you will ride a boat. The boat can accommodate a maximum of 25 persons for 3,500 pesos back and forth.

The 14 boats were registered in the MARINA and its personnel were trained by the local tourism office of the Local Government Unit of Palompon, Leyte.

It will take about an hour to reach the island of Kalanggaman. From afar, you can witness the long stretch of white sands floating in the wide ocean of the North.

I sat on the white sands under the heat of the sun and feel its warmth. There are lots of beautiful views that your camera can capture.

The place was secure because there are tourist police deployed in the area to ensure the safety of the visitors.

So, this summer season if you wanted to experience the white sands without going to Boracay visit Kalanggaman Island in Palompon, Leyte for an enjoyable experience this summer.
