Herbert Sy looking at a possibility of investing in Carigara, Leyte says LGU top official

Carigara, Leyte --- Carigara Municipal Mayor Eduardo C. Ong was very happy when the Bureau of Internal Revenue have declared their municipality as one of the mythical five (5) that have a good performance of collecting their revenues.

The municipalities of Isabel, Palompon, Kananga, Abuyog and including Carigara has been on the top 5 on BIR’s list.

Last 2014 the municipality of Carigara got 18.1 million pesos revenue and last year it increased by 11% in which they have a total of 20.7 million pesos. They were able to surpass their 20 million targets last year. This year their target is still to hit 20 million pesos.

Mayor Ong dreamed that their municipality will be on the top revenue collecting LGU in the province of Leyte. He also disclosed that their revenue collection will increase soon because Herbert Sy has already inquired in preparation for their future construction of Savemore Department store in the area.

“Hantayin nalang natin matapos ang eleksyon. Pero nag promise na sila. Naghahanap na sila ng lugar pati nga yung Mercury naghahanap na rin. Ang problema kasi dito sa Carigara, wala pa tayong lugar na mapag lagyan,” Ong said.

According to Municipal Treasurer Juliet R. Hanopol, the revenue they collect in their market is the life blood of the municipality.

“Booming ang aming economy ngayon. Malaki talaga ang revenue namin sa market, business permits at slaughter house. Business friendly kasi kami at nakikita ng mga negosyante kung saan napupunta ang kanilang binabayad,” she said.

Meanwhile, the 19th Infantry Battalion headed Commanding Officer Ltc. Roberto Sarmiento together in cooperation with the PNP Provincial office through PSSPT. Franco Simborio and PCI Shevert Alvin Machete of the Municipal Police Office signed a declaration declaring the municipality of Carigara as Stable Internal Peace and Security Operations against the Communist Terrorist Movement or CTM on March 14.

“Ang ibig sabihin po ng Stable Internal Peace and Security Operations,  ang municipality po ng Carigara  ay wala na ang impluwensya ng CTM or insurgency. Ang pagkakaiba sa Manageable and Conflict Afflicted and Development Ready area sa Stable Internal and Security Operations ay may maliliit na splinter na kayang i-address ng AFP at PNP,” said Sarmiento.

The absence of major incidents involving the CTM for the past five years was their parameters for the declaration. The Sarmiento also assured that they will stay and maintain their forces in the municipality despite the declaration.

The LGU official is positive that because of the recent declaration of the army more investors will invest in their municipality. Despite the declaration, the official assures that he will coordinate and support the AFP and PNP to continue the peace and security of his constituents.

The municipality of Carigara is one of the biggest municipalities in the 2nd district of Leyte and it used to be a religious center of the province of Leyte. ###

In his 22 years of working as a high school teacher, Esmani has produced two Electrical Engineers, one graduate of Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and Bachelor of Science in Fisheries. Esmani, as the youngest child in the family, witnessed the hardships of his parents raising them by fishing as their means of livelihood. “ If there’s a storm, it means there will no food available for us. When I am in a place of bisaya  people, I listened and almost listed all those words I've heard and study them carefully. This month, we, from the local media together with bloggers and with the Department of Tourism visited the island of San Antonio in Northern Samar. Actually, that visit was not my first time.
